Institutional Decay

The failure of our society to entice young people to join civic institutions is appalling. Not only have we utterly failed to create compelling narratives that shape the future of our world but we have also failed in preserving the narratives of previous generations.

We are tearing down old ideas, values, and institutions while failing to create new ones. All that remains is a deep void of nihilism that has become a metaphorical black hole for the young minds of our time.

What else is there than to fall into extreme activism or to turn your back on current society?

While I was not alive to witness their glory I have heard stories from my parents and grandparents about the joy of belonging to a social institution, being a part of something bigger, and working toward a common good.

These joys are gone.

We have torn down, destroyed, and desecrated all that was holy. We have burned the very structures that once raised our civilization to the ground. We have trampled on all that made us who we are today.

There is no denying the great longing of human beings to contribute to their social surroundings, to give their service to a worthy community, a community that is worth serving.

No such worthy community is a community of nations where politicians behave like savage animals, where corruption and deceit are at the forefront of power, and where we chastise ourselves for our own foundational values.

Fortunately, the resilience of the human spirit appears to triumph again. When visionaries and builders align their interests and work in conjunction tectonic shifts start to manifest.

The brightest minds of our generation have gathered around a new idea, a new concept. And brighter minds are drawn to this idea in greater numbers with every failure of current civil society to provide an adequate outlet for their willingness to serve. This new idea is blockchain technology.

A trustless world that somehow makes everybody trust each other more. A colorblind world where it matters what you do not who you are. A world that guarantees access to a global marketplace to everyone on the planet, from urban New York to rural Africa.

Blockchain is it. This is the new frontier, our new society. This is how we choose to live and build our community. The old world of institutions has decayed too far to be saved and we, the visionaries and builders, are safeguarding our current generation from cynicism and nihilism by filling the void of values.
